RANDOLPH — Services for Jane “Betty” Elizabeth Cunningham, 98, Norfolk, formerly of Randolph, will be Nov. 29, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, Randolph. Interment will follow at the Randolph City Cemetery. Pastor Judy Carlson will be officiating the services. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Betty died Nov. 18, 2025, at the Norfolk Veterans Home, Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Betty was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Randolph, to Orval and Mildred (Jones) Dowling. She attended rural country school before graduating from Randolph Public High School. She then went on to Wayne State College, where she received her teacher’s certificate. Betty taught for six years at District 38 country school before being a stay-at-home farm wife. She also worked for 30-plus years as a cook at the Colonial Manor, Randolph.

Betty married the love of her life, Dale Cunningham, Jan. 14, 1951, at the Presbyterian Church in Randolph. They had three children, Sheila, Nancy and James. The two would live and raise their family in Randolph until 2010, when they moved to Norfolk.

Betty loved gardening, cooking, baking, quilting and embroidering. She was part of the VFW Auxiliary, was active in the United Methodist Church women’s group, and the Town Twirlers Square Dance Club.

Betty is survived by her children, Sheila (Craig) Swanson, Omaha; Nancy (Gene) Jensen, Winside; and James (Kathy) Cunningham, Norfolk; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; her sister, Angie (Lyle) Neuharth, Wisner; and sisters-in-law Ruth Dowling, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Alice (John) Moehlenhoff, Creighton; along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale, in 2012; parents, Orval and Mildred Dowling; brothers, William (Doris) Dowling, Robert Dowling, in infancy, brother Gaylord, and an infant sister.
