Leander Anthony was born March 2, 1943, in Yankton, S.D., to Gerhard and Amelia A. (Leise) Lammers. Lee grew up on the family farm and attended school in Fordyce. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School,Hartington, in 1961. After graduation, he worked on the family farm with his parents. From 1966 to 1972, Lee served with the Army National Guard. During that time, he met his future wife, Lois Diane Heine. They were married Feb.14, 1969, in St. Helena, during a terrible blizzard. Lee and Lois began their married life on a farm near St. Helena, where they lived for five years before purchasing the farm east of Hartington in 1974. Lee farmed there for 38 years, until he and Lois retired and moved into Hartington.

Lee was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was active in his parish and community as a member of the Knight of Columbus, Cursillo, and the AMVETS. He had a holy hour of adoration for many years and dedicated 22 years serving at the Holy Trinity Youth Camp, sharing his strong Catholic faith with the youth of his parish.

In retirement, Lee enjoyed collecting and hauling treasures for the Holy Trinity Parish Garage Sale. He loved baseball, played as a pitcher for local teams, and was a lifelong Yankees fan. He also enjoyed following the Nebraska Cornhuskers and making trips to Lincoln for games. Lee loved playing cards, especially Sheephead, and was proud of being part of a card club that lasted more than 50 years. Above all, his faith, family, and love of farming were the passions that guided him throughout his life.

Lee is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lois, Hartington; four children and spouses, Greg (Kathy) Lammers, Norfolk; Rachele (Gary) Kuehn, Hartington; Marie (Quinn) Bailey, Lincoln; and Chris (Jenny) Lammers, Ainsworth; eight grandchildren, Hailey (Brock) Goeden, Alex Lammers, Ty Lammers, Riley Kuehn, Annika Kuehn, Madison Bailey, Rex Lammers, and Easton Lammers; three brothers, Gary (Teresa) Lammers, St. Helena; Dick(Mary Jean) Lammers, Fordyce; and Donald (Nadine) Lammers, Gilbert, Ariz.; one sister, Delores (Paul) Kostel, Overland Park, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhard and Amelia Lammers; and two nephews, Paul and Chad Lammers.
