HARTINGTON — Cynthia Susan Miller, 56, Hartington, died Nov. 21, 2025, with her family by her side at her home, due to Stage IV MBC. Mass of Christian Burial was Nov. 25 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Will Targy officiating. Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington. Pallbearers were nephews, Patrick Wachter, Noah Miller, Andrew Kropp and Zachary Miller; and friends, Alan Wortmann and Patrick Hochstein. Visitation and a vigil service were Monday, at church. Visitation continued Tuesday, at church, one hour prior to services. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. In November 2020, at the young age of 51, Cindy received the disheartening news that she had breast cancer. She remained strong, positive and optimistic throughout treatment and surgeries despite not knowing what the future would hold.

Cindy was born Oct. 5, 1969, in Fargo, N.D., as Ann Marie Rokusek, the name given to her by her birth mother, Marcene Rokusek. She was taken home Oct. 31, 1969, by her adoptive parents, Ray and Tresia (Biernbaum) Cakl to Yankton, S.D. This is where Cindy grew up and graduated from Yankton High School in 1987. She earned her associate of arts degree in marketing and managerial at Northeast Community College, Norfolk. It was at college that she met her beloved spouse, Douglas James Miller. They were married April 28, 1990, and resided in Hartington. Together they raised three sons. To her, her family was her greatest creation. She also deeply cherished her role as a grandmother to Ella,Jada, Kolt, Moira and Marina.

Professionally, Cindy dedicated 34 years of her life around business with various experiences in marketing, management, sales,and customer service. Her passion for her work was evident to all who knew her and she was admired for her work ethic – earning acknowledgements for her many achievements and certifications.

Cindy’s life with her family was filled with love, laughter, and lively spirit. If you knew her well, you fell target to her sarcasm, but knew you were loved.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years,Douglas; three children, Mason (Tessa) Miller, Hartington; Chad (Rebecca) Miller, West Point; and Nickolas (Drew) Miller, Lincoln; brother-in-law, Kevin (Denise) Miller, Chadron; sister-inlaw, Kimberly (Robert) Kropp, Omaha; brother-in-law, Donald “Chris” (Rhonda) Miller, Hartington; her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Tresia Cakl;and in-laws, Don and Darlene Miller.
