ALLEN — Darrel Lee Frerichs, 78, Allen, died Oct. 26, 2025, at Arbor Care Center, Madison. A memorial service was held Oct. 31 at the Allen United Methodist Church, Allen, with Pastor Debra Tompsett-Welch and Pastor Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Eastview Cemetery, near Allen. Lunch followed the service at the Allen Fire Hall. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements were under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home, Wakefield. Darrel was born Dec. 28, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Irvin “Carl” and Ella “Betty” (Kovarna) Frerichs. He grew up near Allen, graduating from high school in 1966. Following graduation, Darrel enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany before serving in Vietnam with the 60th Land Clearing Company, the “Land Eaters.” While in Vietnam he was injured and received the Purple Heart. After returning home, Darrel farmed with his brothers, John and Robert. The family farmed, raised hogs and ran a dairy farm. Darrel enjoyed driving the countryside, and visiting with the guys at the elevator.

Darrel is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Frerichs, Allen; brother, Robert (Nancy) Frerichs, Allen; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and greatnephews.

Darrel is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Frerichs; sister-inlaw, Marilyn Frerichs; and a sister, Carlene Frerichs.
