SCHUYLER — Vi Krupka, 79, Schuyler, died Oct. 13, 2025, at St. Joseph Villa, David City. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Oct. 17, at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Schuyler, with Rev. Brian Connor as officiant. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Thursday, with a 7 p.m. Rosary, at Kracl Funeral Chapel, and will continue 9-10 a.m., Friday, the chapel. Committal will be in the Schuyler Cemetery Kracl Funeral Chapel, Schuyler, is handling arrangements. Viola Mae Marie (Mathiason) Krupka was born Nov. 8, 1945, in Cedar County, to Alvin and Theda (Steffen) Mathiason. She attended high school in Hartington. Viola married Richard Krupka May 4, 1963, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dodge. Together they built a life in various Nebraska communities — Howells, Fremont, a farm north of Schuyler, and eventually settling in Schuyler in 1985.
Viola was a hard worker throughout her life. She managed groups of teenagers walking beans, worked at the Pathfinder Hotel in Fremont, Doneli Foods in Howells, and spent many years bartending at the Husker Bar. Known for her delicious cooking, Vi especially enjoyed making kolaches, dumplings, potato salad, and canned goods. She also had a talent for rug making.
Above all, Viola cherished her family. She and Richard raised five children and spent their retirement years surrounded by loved ones in Schuyler. Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a devoted member of Divine Mercy Parish – St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Schuyler; the St. Mary’s Guild; and the Schuyler Fire Auxiliary.
Viola is survived by her five children, Dean Krupka, Fremont, and his son, Nathan, North Bend; Theda (Kirk) Hansen, North Bend, and their children, Allison (Austin) Jakubowski, and their daughter, Avery, and Shane (Makayla) Hansen and their daughter, Everlyn; Tim (Brenda) Krupka, and their children, Jeff Shuster, Jeremy Krupka, Samara Krupka and Jailyn Sulley; Paul (Kay) Krupka and their children, Lorah Lynn (Chris) Baete, and their children, Katelynn Stodieck, Kendra Baete and Grayson Baete; Christopher (Audrea) Krupka; and Mylissa (Branden) Lotspeich and their daughter, Kamree Lotspeich, son, Dale Krupka, Omaha, and his children, Anna and Tanner Krupka. She is also survived by her brother, Claude Mathiason, and his wife, Bonnie, Hartington; along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Richard; daughter-in-law, Sandy Krupka; her brother, Curt (Phylis) Mathiason; sister, Lina (Dan) Suing; niece, Shawna Suing; greatniece, Valerie Suing; and nephews, Derek and Chad Mathiason.
