She attended elementary school at the Lammers Ranch Country School and graduated from Mount Marty High School, Yankton, S.D., in 1951. Phyllis was raised on a farm five miles southwest of Fordyce and has lived in the Fordyce area all her life until moving to the Hartington nursing home five years ago. She married Marcus Francis Thoene Oct. 7, 1952, in Fordyce. Marcus died Nov. 21, 2009, at the age of 84.
Phyllis was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the St. John’s Ladies Guild and a member of the choir for almost 50 years. She was also involved with the Christian Mothers.
