Elsie was born Dec. 2, 1947, at home in Carroll, in 1947 to Carl and Mabel (Shufelt) Janssen and picked up the name “Sis” because her brother couldn’t pronounce her name. It stuck and became her given name throughout her life. Sis attended grade school in Carroll and went to Wayne High School until tenth grade; she later received her GED. She loved to spend time with her first granddaughter, Jackie Marie Petersen, and they loved searching for treasures while thrifting together. One of her favorite things in life was caring for her many cats that she doted on in the barn of the farm where she lived. She worked at various places in the Randolph area. Sis really enjoyed reading and doing word games in her spare time and was great at both. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and wood-working.
Sis is survived by her loving partner, Larry Kessler, Randolph; sister, Carla (Gary) Oakeson, Bennington; son, Jody (Amy) Rohde, Fawn Grove, Pa.; daughter, Kelly (Bruce) Breiner, Norfolk; grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Sis was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mabel Janssen; brother, Richard Janssen; and daughter, Carmen Petersen.
