LAUREL — Memorial services for William “Bill” Young, 79, Laurel, was May 19 at United Lutheran Church, Laurel. Rev. Tom Tuura officiated, with burial at a later date in the Laurel Cemetery.

Memorial visitation was Sunday at the church.

Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home, Norfolk, was in charge of arrangements.

Bill died May 13, 2025, at Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge.

William A. “Bill” Young, son of Ted and Erma Ruth Young, was born June 1, 1945, in Wayne. Bill graduated from Wayne High School Sept. 4, 1965, he married Karen Wiebelhaus in Laurel. From this union, Bill was blessed with four children, Troy, Vicky, Brian and Dennis. Bill later married Mina Swanson Feb. 7, 2001, in Las Vegas, Nev., and was further blessed with four step children, Jason, Justin, Jesse and Jacob.

Bill resided in the Laurel area for his entire lifetime. He was a farmer, co-founder of Y&Y Lawn Service, and was also known as “The Oyster Man.”

He was a member of United Lutheran Church, Laurel, and served on the church council. He enjoyed volunteering with upkeep at the Laurel Cemetery and volunteering around Laurel.

Bill is survived by his wife, Mina Young, Laurel; children, Troy (Kaye) Young, Laurel; Vicky (Kent) Owen, Winside; Brian (Jenny) Young, Laurel; and Julie Hart, Laurel; step children, Jason Swanson, Laurel; Justin Swanson, Laurel; Jesse (Trisha) Swanson, Laurel; and Jacob (Mandi) Swanson, Laurel; grandchildren, Brooke (Logan) Hansen, Parker Young, Keegan Young, Rylynn Owen, Sidney Young, Joshua (Britney) Hart, and Justin (Keri) Hart; step grandchildren, Maddie Swanson, Hannah (Mason) Forsberg, Kaylee Swanson, Hope Swanson, Skylar Swanson, and Payton Swanson; and siblings, Erma Ruth Barker, Wayne; Janice Brockman, Norfolk; and Patrick Young, Cedar Creek, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Erma Ruth Young; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Walter Hale; sister, Dona Iddings; Dennis Hart; fatherin- law, Gary Johnson; grandparents-in-law, Paul and Kaja Gade; step father-in-law, Walter Urwiler.
