Darrell Frederick was born July 25, 1937, in Hartington, to Frederick J. and Minnie (Peterson) Dreesen. He grew up in the East Bow area and attended school at the Branch Creek School. Darrell started farming with his dad and then married Colleen Henrietta Kollars April 16, 1958, in Crofton. They purchased farm ground and then, after his father died in 1972, Darrell began farming the home place. Darrell was a dairy farmer, raised crops and pigs.
Darrell belonged to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and held an hour of adoration for many years. He was very strong in his faith. Darrell liked polka music, square dancing, belonging to the Coleridge Saddle Club and going on trail rides. After he retired from farming, he and Colleen enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. They went to the Wisconsin Dells, Branson, Mo., and Colorado to visit their grandson and his wife. After Colleen’s death, Darrell took a few trips to South Carolina to visit his grandson in the Army. Darrell always enjoyed seeing the countryside on their drives. He loved visiting with friends and family, and always enjoyed meeting new people.
Darrell is survived by two children, Scott Dreesen, Hartington, and Lori (Bob) Sohm, Sioux City, Iowa; grandson, Dan (Amanda) Dreesen, Manhattan, Kan.; nieces and nephews, Don (Kathy) Dreesen, Columbus; Diane (Kevin) Brummer, Ankeny, Iowa; Darla Dreesen and Bill King, Yuma, Ariz.; Matt (Valerie) Dreesen, St. Louis, Mo.; and great-nieces and nephews.
