City working to get property cleaned up
HARTINGTON — The city is working hard to get some properties cleaned up around town.
Hartington Mayor Mark Becker told City Council members Monday he had notices sent to a property owner and to a business owner requesting they clean up around their property.
Becker then asked City Attorney Steve Pier what the city’s next steps could be to get these properties cleaned up.
Pier said the city has a couple of options. City workers could go in and clean up the properties and then bill the property owner for the work. That bill would then be assessed against the property if it were not paid, he said.
Another option might be to have the residence condemned, Pier said.
Becker also noted he has been talking with a property owner that has not yet put in sidewalk after a street paving project was completed in front of his house.
