Wynot will Tangle with Tigers Friday

Posted in:

WYNOT - The Blue Devils football team hits the road this week to take on the 1-0 Osmond Tigers.

Wynot is looking to bounce back from an 80-36 loss to Humphrey St. Francis last week.

Osmond’s only game came in week one when the Tigers defeated Wausa 62-36.

Osmond’s offense in week one came from a stellar game by senior quarterback Anthony Heiman. He passed for 240 yards and ran for 138 more on the way to the win. Heiman was also responsible for all eight touchdowns, throwing for five, rushing for two, and returning a kickoff for a 73-yard score.

“Osmond ran the ball quite well in their first game,” said Wynot coach Steve Wieseler. “We need to stop their run and take away their screenplays on the defensive side of the ball, and offensively we need to have some long sustained drives in order to keep the momentum of the game in our favor.”

Heiman’s main receiving target was junior Justus Maertins, who caught two touchdown receptions including a 68 yarder. Maertins finished the night with nine receptions for 93 yards and two scores. Heiman had two other passing touchdowns that were big plays. Joshua Gansebom scored on a 62-yard pass and catch, and Zach Huwaldt scored on a 47-yard reception.

Wynot is looking to rebound after the big loss to the Flyers last week at home. Wieseler says the learning experience will benefit the team in games the rest of the season.

“We have to move on and stay positive,” said Wieseler. “HSF was a well-oiled machine when we played them. We will learn a lot from this game and hopefully improve each week.”

Wynot will have a bye after the Osmond game, before traveling to Wausa on Sept. 21.
