More Neb. counties are placed on state COVID-19 list

LINCOLN — Nearly one-third of Nebraska’s 93 counties are now under a State Directed Health Measure.

Gov. Pete Ricketts announced Monday the state’s fth CO- VID-19 related Directed Health Measure includes Banner, Box Butte, Cheyenne, Dawes, Deuel, Garden, Grant, Kimball, Morrill, Scotts Bluff, Sheridan and Sioux counties.

It will be in effect until May 11, unless renewed.

The measure limits public

gatherings and restricts restaurants and bars.

NORFOLK — The annual Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic rosters have been announced and several area athletes have made the list.

Helen Leona Loftis

YUMA, Ariz. — Helen Leona Loftis 96, Yuma, Ariz., died March 20, 2020, in Yuma.  

Helen was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Delaware Okla. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years and two daughters.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Nancy; her grandchildren, Kelly, Kim and Kurt; and seven great-grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest in Hartington at a future date.

SPENCER — Edwin Filips, 94, Spencer, died March 23, 2020, at Arbor Care, Hartington.

Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Spencer, with burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Spencer. For everyone’s safety there was no visitation and immediate family only at the Mass and gravesite. The family will plan a memorial at a later date.

WHITING, Iowa— Harold M. Kneifl, 74, died March 27, 2020, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Whiting, Iowa. 

He is survived by his wife, Janet, Madison; children, Kandy (Robert) Jurgens, Madison; Greg Kneifl, Norfolk; and Brett (Jill) Kneifl, Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and sisters, Diana Wingett and Debby (Greg) Engel. 

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff; and two infant siblings.
