Wynot will take on Madison Saturday at State

Posted in:

MITCHELL, S.D. — After a year’s absence, the Wynot Expos will make a return trip to the S.D. State Amateur Class B Baseball Tournament.

Wynot will open the annual tournament in one of the final first-round games, playing in the Saturday, Aug. 4 opener against Madison, S.D.

The Expos will be bringing along a few new additions to the team heading into the State tournament. Manager Lee Heimes told the Cedar County News that the Expos have picked up two brothers from Irene, Matt and George Sees. Matt is an infielder and pitcher while George plays in the outfield. Matt will wear the number 20 with George wearing 19.

Irene did not make the State Tournament, so those players are available to join the expanded rosters of a team that did advance.

It has not been long since Wynot won the South Dakota Class B State Tournament. The Expos topped Alexandria 8-2 in 2014 for the team’s first State title.

The 12-day tourney opens Wednesday Aug. 1 at Ronken Field on the campus of Augustana University in Sioux Falls.
