MITCHELL, S.D. — The Wynot Expos will begin their quest for another South Dakota Class B state amateur baseball title at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Mitchell’s Cadwell Park.

Thirty-two teams will descend upon the historic Cadwell Park for the annual 12-day tournament, which begins Wednesday and runs through Aug. 15.

The pairings were revealed Sunday during a selection show at the Mitchell Mall.

On Friday, Volga plays Crofton at 1 p.m. after an 11 a.m. rematch of last year’s State Title game between Alexandria and Canova.

Wynot plays Four Corners at 5:30 p.m., while the Dell Rapids Mudcats play Lake Norden in the 7:30 p.m. nightcap.

Lee Heimes said his team is going into the game a bit blind.

“We have not played them this year and we don’t know a lot about them yet,” Heimes said.

The highlight of the first round is Alexandria playing Canova, which is a rematch of last year’s Class B state championship game. The Angels topped the Gang, 11- 3, last season. The rematch is 11 a.m. Friday.

The first pitch of the tournament will feature Milbank playing Platte at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Dimock-Emery vs. Castlewood at 7:30 p.m.

Menno faces Redfield Dairy Queen at 11 a.m. Thursday to start the first four-game slate. The Plankinton Bankers play Clark at 1 p.m., followed by Akron, Iowa, vs. Mount Vernon at 5:30 p.m. Flandreau plays Tabor at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Lesterville plays Dell Rapids PBR at 11 a.m., followed by Larchwood, Iowa vs. Lennox at 1 p.m. Elk Point plays Kimball/White Lake at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Redfield Pheasants vs. Colman at 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Salem squares off against Colome at 11 a.m. South Central plays Winner/Colome at 1 p.m. to complete the first round.

Second round action starts at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
