Wynot will enter tourney as one of the top seeds

Posted in:

Games this Week: Thursday vs. Lutheran High Northeast;

Outlook: The Lady Trojans are now 6-6, as the last month of play tips off before the postseason gets rolling. Creighton and Wayne were held in check before a tough loss to Guardian Angels, but it was overall a good week.

Last week’s results: Beat Creighton, 65-53, Beat Wayne, 51-40, Lost to GACC, 46-36.

Coach Craig Wortmann Comments: “Defensively we are really doing well. Saturday night we seemed a little tired as our threepoint shots just didn’t go in.”

HARTINGTON-NEWCASTLE

Games this Week: Thursday vs. Winside; Saturday conference opener vs. TBA

Outlook: With two tough losses, the Lady Wildcats dropped to 5-9 despite a strong performance against LCC. A third quarter drop didn’t help their cause as they trailed by 12 points in the third quarter. Coaches felt the Crofton loss was spurred on by being tentative against the local heavies. A strong first quarter gave Hartington-Newcastle something to build off.

Last week’s results: Lose LCC, 47-45, Lose at Crofton, 74-32

Coach Josh Morten Comments: “We have played Winside already this year and I expect a lot of the same as the last time we played. We need to just not have a letdown against them. This week is a good week to get ready for conference which starts on Saturday.”

WYNOT

Games this Week: Thursday vs. Ponca; Saturday conference opener vs. TBA

Outlook: The defending champs continue to roll and, thanks to a 23-point performance by Karley Heimes, they were able to move past Winnebago to move to 11-2.

Last week’s results: Beat Winnebago, 58-47.

Coach Steve Wieseler Comments: “That was a good win for us. Having a 10-day layoff (due to weather) showed a little in the first quarter but we got into rhythm in the second quarter. Our team is healthy for the first time most all of the year so it was fun to see everyone out playing at full strength. We have had some illness and small injuries earlier in the year.

“Our team is looking forward to the final stretch of the season and hope we are playing our best basketball down the stretch.”
