Wynot takes down Plainview in first round

LINCOLN — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils met a familiar foe in their first round game of the Class D2 state tournament at the Devaney Center in Lincoln on Wednesday night. The Lady Blue Devils would build a 24-17 halftime lead over Plainview and went on to earn a 46-31 win to advance to play Falls City Sacred Heart in the next round.

Kenna Oligmueller was the star for the Lady Blue Devils in this game as her steady play at the low post resulted in a 19-point effort. Eliza Lange came off the bench in the second half to contribute eight points to the win.

Plainview was led by Teya Boyer with 13 points and helped by Abbie Kromarek who hit for nine points.

The Lady Pirates got three points each from Teya Boyer and Abbie Kromarek to lead their offense in the opening quarter.

Wynot countered with six points in the paint from Kenna Oligmueller and a pair of driving lay ups from Kinslee Heimes to take an early 10-8 advantage.

In the second quarter, Oligmueller continued to work the offensive glass for another six points. Myrah Sudbeck and Allison Wieseler both drained three-pointers from the left corner as Wynot went on a 14- 9 run to lead 24-17 at halftime.

Plainview tried to hang in there with three points from Abbie Kromarcek and a bucket each from Teya Boyer and Paiyton Ault.

The Lady Blue Devils started to pull away in the third quarter, led by six more points from Kenna Oligmueller and four points from Kayla Pinkelman as the 13-9 run pushed their lead to 37-24 going into the final quarter.

Teya Boyer continued her steady play for the Lady Pirates as she hit for four more points to add to her totals.

Peighton Arlt hit a trey as well for Plainview in the final quarter.

Wynot’s reserves held them in check the rest of the way and Eliza Lange had a couple of putbacks along with a pair of free throws for six points as the Lady Blue Devils advanced to the quarterfinals with the 46-31 win.
