Wynot races past Randolph for third straight win

Posted in:

RANDOLPH — The Wynot Blue Devils rolled to their third win in a row on Friday night as they picked up a lopsided 70-16 win over the Randolph Cardinals.

The Blue Devils scored on their first six possessions on offense as they earned a big 556-247 advantage in yardage for the night. Wynot defense was in top form as well they limited the Cardinals offense to scores one early and one late in the game.

“Other than that one early miscue our defense was solid all night long.

The young guys stepped up when they got in the game as well,” said Wynot Coach Steve Heimes.

On offense Wynot would spread the wealth as they got three touchdowns each from Anthony Haberman and Zack Foxhoven and pair of touchdown passes by Dylan Heine

The Randolph Cardinals’ one bright spot was the running of Justin Haselhorst who ran for 171 yards on 25 carries and scored a touchdown.

On defense Wynot was paced by Jarrod Lange and Peyton Wieseler with 10 tackles each.

The Cardinal defense was led by Tyson Junck and Justin Haselhorst with eight stops each.

On the second play of the game Anthony Haberman would bootleg around the left side and race 54 yards for the Blue Devils first touchdown. Owen Sudbeck ran in the PAT and Wynot led 8-0.

Randolph would answer right back on their first offensive play from scrimmage as Justin Haselhorst broke free up the left side and bolted 59 yards for a Cardinal score. Haselhorst also ran in the PAT to tie the score with less than two minutes gone in the game.

The Blue Devils would strike back quickly on an option pitch to Owen Sudbeck and he did the rest galloping 68 yards to pay dirt. Sudbeck also scored on pitch play for the PAT making the score 16-8 in favor of Wynot.

Randolph would move the ball on their next offensive possession but after a hurdling penalty their drive stalled and their punter shanked the ball out of bound giving the Blue Devils a short field. Wynot would cash in when Haberman found Jack Kuchta in the back of the endzone for a five-yard touchdown toss. Owen Sudbeck sweep the right side for the PAT pushing Wynot’s lead to 24-8.

Randolph’s offense continued to sputter and after another 3 and out the Blue Devils went on another scoring march. Anthony Haberman earned his second long touchdown run of the night as he scampered 36 yards for the score. The PAT run failed but this had the making of a track meet as Wynot’s lead had ballooned to 30-8.

Wynot would add one more score at the 1:30 mark. Aided by a 33 yard catch and run by Colin Wieseler the Blue Devils drove the ball into Randolph red zone. Zack Foxhoven zig-zagged his way the last 16 yards for another Wynot touchdown. Foxhoven also ran in the PAT and the first quarter finally came to an end with Wynot leading 38-8.

Coach Heimes started to sprinkle in his reserves to open the second quarter. Zack Foxhoven would get his second score of the night on a nifty 31 yard run. The PAT pass was dropped but Wynot’s offense kept rolling along leading 44-8.

Wynot’s defense got a partial block on a Cardinal punt attempt and had the ball at midfield. A first down catch by Colin Wieseler and pair of rushing first downs by Dylan Heine and Zack Foxhoven advanced the ball deep into Randolph. Foxhoven dove in from the 1 yard line to complete the drive. Foxhoven also added the PAT making the score 50-8 at the half.

Randolph received the second half kick off but the Blue Devil defense remained stout forcing a 3 and out. Time went quickly with the running clock but at the 6:33 mark Anthony Haberman broke a 30 yard touchdown run. The PAT pass was off the mark with the score ballooning to 56-8.

Justin Haselhorst would go to work on the Cardinals next offensive set.

Runs of 10,18,9 and 11 moved the ball deep into Blue Devil territory. Tyson Junck would sneak in from the 2 yard line for the Cardinals second rushing score of the night. Justin Haselhorst powered in for the PAT making the score 56-16.

Reserves played out the rest of the game. Wynot got a long range score when Dillion Heine hit Carson Wieseler on a hitch and go and Wieseler outran the defender for a 62 yard touchdown. Heine then hit Joesph Sudbeck for a PAT to make the score 64-16 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter Wynot would get the only score of the period at the 5:33 mark. Helped by a 39 yard catch and run by Carson Wieseler Wynot would put their final score up on the board on a 12 yard touchdown from Dillion Heine to Jack Kuchta as the Blue Devils had earned the 70-18 win.
