Wynot girls taste first losses as they finally get back to action
WISNER — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils are trying to shake off the rust after a two-week COVID-19 layoff.
The Lady Devils entered a twoweek quarantine with a perfect 10-0 record, but were unable to find the win column in their first contests back last week.
The Lady Devils played an exhibition at Cedar Catholic Thursday. The two teams battled toe-to-toe for all five sets before Cedar took a five-set win.
That contest will not be included in the team’s season standings, but it was a good tuneup for both squads.
Wynot entered the alwaystough Wisner-Pilger Tournament Saturday, taking on O’Neill in their first contest of the day.
The Lady Blue Devils hung right with the C1 Lady Eagles, falling 27-25 in the first set before winning the second set 25-21. The Lady Eagles picked up the ‘W’ with a 25-19 third-set win.
“The girls played some good competition today. This is our first week back from quarantine so we are a little rusty and need some extra court time, practice and conditioning,” Coach Wieseler said. “We competed well and the girls worked hard. Autumn Lawson and Karley Heimes put up some good kill stats for us.”
