Wynot girls take on Crofton, West Point-Beemer

HUMPHREY — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils got back on the winning track on Saturday afternoon when they pulled away from the Humphrey St. Francis Lady Flyers 45-32.

The Lady Blue Devils used a 14-5 second quarter run and a 15-4 fourth quarter run to roll to the consolation game win in the Humphrey Holiday Tournament. They fell to the consolation bracket after losing in the first round to highly-rated Crofton.

Wynot was led by the steady play of their point guard Kinslee Heimes who took scoring honor for the game with 15 points. Myrah Sudbeck continues to be a scoring problem for opponents hitting for 12 points in the game.

Humphrey St Francis was paced by nine points each from Karley Kessler and Kali Jarosz.

In the first quarter Wynot got a trey each from Kinslee Heimes and Myrah Sudbeck along with put back by Kenna Oligmueller but Humphrey St. Francis was also connecting with six big points from Kali Jarosz, a pair of baskets by Karley Kessler and a single bucket from 3 other players to put out to the early 16-11 lead.

Wynot’s defense would show up in the second quarter holding the Lady Flyers to just one basket and some free throws. Their offense also stepped it up with four points each from Myrah Sudbeck, Kinslee Heimes and Eliza Lange as they had retook the 25-21 halftime lead.

Scoring went cold in the third quarter for both teams. Wynot got a lone bucket from Kayla Pinkelman and some free throws. The Lady Flyers got two baskets — one by Jayda Krings and another by Alexis Kuchar as Wynot still held the 32-26 lead after three quarters of play.

In the final quarter the Lady Blue Devil defense controlled the Lady Flyer offense and their offense came back to life.

Jaylin Geisen hit twice from the left corner and Myrah Sudbeck also drained one from the same area. Kinslee Heimes and Kayla Pinkelman each had a put back off of offensive rebounds as the Lady Devil pulled away for the 45-32 win.

HUMPHREY — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils took their second loss of the season on Friday afternoon when they fell to West Point Beemer Lady Cadets 43-39.

The game was tied at halftime but the Lady Cadets went on a 17-11 third quarter run to build a lead.

The Lady Blue Devils rallied in the fourth quarter but fell short as the Lady Cadets advanced to the championship game to take on the Crofton Warriors for the Holiday Tournament championship.

Wynot was led by Myrah Sudbeck who hit four three pointers for the game for her 12 points. Kinslee Heimes finished with 10 and Kayla Pinkelman just missed double figures with nine points.

The Lady Cadets got a big scoring boost from Allie Kaup who connected for 15 points nine of which came in the big third quarter run.

Addison Toelle had 10 point, Cambell Snodgrass helped the Lady Cadets with her nine points and Mia Hunke chipped in with eight points for the game.

The two teams started out slowly. Wynot got a pair of baskets from Kayla Pinkelman and one each by Allison Wieseler and Kinslee Heimes in the opening quarter.

West Point Beemer countered with a pair of baskets each from Allie Kaup and Mia Hunke and late three by Addison Toelle to earn an early 11-8 advantage.

In the second quarter the Lady Cadets got 2 more baskets each from Campbell Snodgrass and Alie Hunke.

Wynot answered with a pair of three pointers by Myrah Sudbeck and a long one by Kinslee Heimes to tie the game at 21-21 at halftime.

In the third quarter the Lady Devils got a third trey by Myrah Sudbeck and another one by Kinslee Heimes. West Point’s Allie Kaup was consistent dropping in 9 points in close and Campbell Snodgrass drained a three pointer as West Point Beemer went on an 17-11 run to take a 38-32 lead into the final quarter of play.

In the final period Wynot would battle back with another trey by Myrah Sudbeck and pair of lay ins by Kayla Pinkelman but it was not quite enough as Allie Kaup hit a another bucket and some free throw by the Lady Cadets preserved the 43-39 win.
