Wynot girls pick up First Team All State honors

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Several Wynot girls have picked up post-season honors for their basketball prowess.

Katelyn Heine was named to the Omaha World Herald Class D2 All State First Team.

Her teammate, Michaela Lange, earned a spot on the Omaha newspaper’s All State Second Team.

Three other Wynot players — Shaelee Planer, Whitney Hochstein and Karley Heimes — picked up All State Honorable Mention honors.

Earlier in the month, the girls picked up Lewis & Clark All Conference honors.

Wynot seniors Katelyn Heine, Shaelee Planer and Karley Heimes led the First Team All Conference list.

The honorable mention list was dominated by the Wynot Lady Blue Devils as seniors Michaela Lange, Katelyn Heimes, Noelle Wieseler earned spots on that team.

Heine led the way for the champions with an average of 11 points a game, while Planer poured in 8.5 a night, and Heimes posted 6.5 points each outing.

“Katelyn was a great three-point shooter for us, and a three-year starter at the point guard position,” Wynot head coach Steve Wieseler said. “She shot 45 percent from the three-point line for us.

He said Planer was also a huge contributor.

“Shaelee played inside and outside for us and was also a three-year starter,” he said. “She was very versatile on the defensive end as well as being asked to cover opposing team’s guards, and post players.”

Heimes really developed throughout the year, he said.

“Karley had a great second half of the season and has the ability to score from behind the 3-point line, and in the paint.  She is a great defender as well, and led our team in rebounds.”
