Wynot girls cruise to another L&C Conference title

WAYNE — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils claimed yet another Lewis and Clark Conference Basketball Tournament championship Monday night at Wayne State College.

The Lady Blue Devils raced to a big 31-8 first-half lead. Then they had to withstand a furious Plainview Lady Pirates third-quarter comeback attempt before settling down to earn the 51-41 win.

Wynot was led by Allison Wieseler, who hit four three-pointers on her way to 14 points. Kinslee Heimes continued her steady play out of her point-guard position to finish with 12 points. Eliza Lange hit some key baskets and contributed eight points to the Lady Blue Devils’ offense.

Plainview was led by Teya Boyer to tie for top scoring honors with 14 points as well. Abbie Kromarck just missed double figures with her nine points.

Wynot started out playing well. Led by five points each from Alllison Wieseler and Kinslee Heimes and a pair of baskets by Kayla Pinkelman, the Lady Blue Devils eased out to a 14-7 early lead.

Plainview got four points from Abbie Kromarck and a basket from Teya Boyer to supply their offense.

In the second quarter, Wynot’s defense completely shut down the Lady Pirates’ offense, limiting them to a single free throw.

Five more points by Kinslee Heimes, four points from Eliza Lange off the bench and a three-pointer each from Allison Wieseler and Courtney Pinkelman fueled the scoring burst. Wynot took a 31-8 lead at halftime.

The two teams would reverse the roles as Plainview would shut down the Lady Blue Devils in the third quarter. Teya Boyer would heat up and score eight points in the frame and Madelynn Dougherty hit a three-pointer as the Lady Pirates went on a 15-2 run to cut Wynot’s lead to 33-23 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, both teams would find the range offensively with each putting up 18 points. Plainview was led by Abbie Kromarck with five points, four points each from Madelynn Dougherty and Marque Albin, along with a long-range bomb by Teya Boyer.

Wynot countered with two more threes by Allison Wieseler, four more points by Eliza Lange and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line as they sealed the 51-41 win and earned the gold medals as champions of the 2024 Lewis and Clark Conference Basketball Tournament.
