Wynot girls breeze to a pair of wins

Wynot — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils earned a couple of dominant wins last week in Lewis and Clark Conference action.

On Friday night, they travelled to Wausa to take on the Lady Vikings and rolled to a 54-30 win. Then Saturday, it was a trip down to Randolph, where the Lady Devils cruised past the Lady Cardinals by a final of 42-16.

Friday night, the Lady Blue Devils built a huge 44-18 lead over the first three quarters before calling off the dogs, and went on to the big conference win.

Edyn Sudbeck was raining in threes as she connected four times from downtown and took scoring honors for the visitors in the game with 15 points.

Karley Heimes and Autumn Lawson each also hit double figures in the game for Wynot with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Wausa’s lone bright light was Morgan Kleinschmit, who finished with 16 points for the hometown Lady Vikings.

In the first quarter, Wausa had trouble with Wynot’s full-court pressure. Edyn Sudbeck drained a pair of treys and Kendra Pinkelman and Karley Heimes each hit for four points to help Wynot to an 18-4 early lead.

In the second quarter, Morgan Kleinschmit hit a three and Abby Kaiser and Anika Alonzo each had a bucket for the Lady Vikes, but they could not gain ground. Wynot countered from long range as Edyn Sudbeck hit her third trey of the night and Kendra Pinkelman also connected from behind the arc, as Wynot increased their lead to 29-12 at halftime.

The third quarter was more of the same. Morgan Kleinschmit connected for five Lady Viking points, but Wynot was cruising as they got balanced scoring with four points each from Autumn Lawson, Karley Heimes and Emersyn Sudbeck to increase their lead to 44-18 with one quarter to go.

Wausa found some life in the fourth quarter behind four more points by Kleinschmit and baskets by Charlie Price, Annika Alonzo, Kilee Thorell and Sienna West as they went on a 12-10 run but this one was decided early for Wynot.

On Saturday, the Lady Blue Devils made it back-to-back conference wins as they used lights out defense to shut down the Randolph Lady Cardinals in the first half of their matchup and went on to take the 42-16 win.

The Lady Blue Devils placed 10 players in the scorebook, lead by eight points in the paint from Karley Heimes and seven points a piece from Edyn Sudbeck and Amber Lawson. Emersyn Sudbeck and Autumn Lawson helped out with five points each.

Randolph was paced by Gracie Eldge who hit a 3-pointer and scored five points for the Lady Cardinals.

Wynot got off to a blistering start. In the first frame, the Lady Devils got six points inside from Karley Heimes and a pair of midrange jumpers by Autumn Lawson, along with four points on the baseline from Kendra Pinkelman, as they raced to a 19-1 first quarter lead.

Twins Emersyn and Edyn Sudbeck each hit a trey for Wynot in the second frame, as Wynot increased the lead to 29-3 at halftime. Scoring would slow in the third quarter.

Scoring would slow in the third quarter. Gracie Eldge hit a 3-pointer for the Lady Cardinals. Edyn Sudbeck and Amber Lawson each connected for a pair of baskets, and Wynot stretched their lead to 38-7.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Cardinals were able to gain a little ground from the charity stripe, hitting 6 of 10, but Wynot got a bucket each off of offensive rebounds and putbacks by Amy Tramp and Allison Wieseler, as they finished off the Cardinals, 42-16.
