Wynot girls are happy for return trip to State

Posted in:

LINCOLN — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils booked a date Saturday to play in one of their favorite venues — Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Lady Blue Devils won the District title Saturday in Grand Island to advance to Thursday’s first-round State Tournament game at the famed Lincoln arena.

Wynot (21-9) will be the No. 5 seed and take on No. 4 Stuart (24-5) 11 a.m. Thursday at Pinnacle Bank Arena in a rematch of the teams’ SubDistrict final Wynot won in four set earlier last week.

Wynot head coach Tamm Wieseler is more than read for a rematch with a tough Stuart team.

“Since both of us have seen and played one anoth not too long ago, we are both fresh in each other’s minds,” Wieseler said. “We will have to block well and serve well to keep them ou of system. Stuart has a well-rounded team who are coached by some veteran coaches -Sandy and John Miller - who do a great job of getting teams ready for big games.

“It should be a good state game.”

The Lady Blue Devils are going to state and expect to make something of the opportunity while keeping a leery eye on Stuart in the rematch.

“We’re all really excited to go and we are ready to play,” Amy Tramp said. “We are happy to get the rematch and hopefully we come out even stronger. We obviously already know the team really well and how they run. We are hoping to play the best we can and keep going.

“We work really well together after earlier in the season we were in a rut. We definitely turned it around and we are stronger than last year. We are capable of winning and going all the way and winning the whole thing.”

Chloe Heimes says the Lady Blue Devils should expect Stuart to play better than in subdistrict.

“We are hoping it will be a really good match,” she said.
