Wynot gets off to good start with win over CWC

LINCOLN — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils topped the Chambers Wheeler Central Lady Renegades 49-39 in first-round action at the State Tournament Wednesday.

The Lady Blue Devils opened up a 25-19 halftime lead and kept the Lady Renegades at bay in the second half.

Wynot was led by Karley Heimes who took scoring honors for the Lady Devils with 16 points. Edyn and Emersyn Sudbeck each helped out with seven points and Kendra Pinkelman aided the offense with her six points.

CWC was led by Morgan Ramsay who tied for scoring honors with 16 points for the Lady Renegades.

In the first frame Wynot got a bucket each by Karley Heimes, Kendra Pinkelman and Edyn Sudbeck. The Renegades got a trey by Ryan Habenchak, a basket inside by Rachel Dierks and four points from the free throw line to earn a 9-8 lead.

In the second period CWC got five points from Malconna Pelster and some freethrows. Wynot rallied with five points each from Krystal Sudbeck and Karley Heimes along with a 3-pointer from Edyn Sudbeck as they took the lead by a 25-19 margin at halftime.

In the third quarter the Lady Renegades got all 10 of their points from Morgan Ramsey. Wynot held onto the 36-29 lead with four points from Kendra Pinkelman and buckets by Emersyn Sudbeck, Autumn Lawson and Kayla Pinkelman.

The fourth quarter saw the Lady Rengades cut the lead twice to six points but each time the Lady Devils held them off. At the four-minute mark Coach Wieseler took the air out of ball as the Lady Devils went to their stall game. CWC was forced to foul and the Devils went 8-8 from the line to seal the 49-39 win
