Wynot finishes second, exits stage left

WYNOT – Wynot’s one-act play received runner-up honors Monday at the 2023 District D1-3 Play Production competition.

However, second place ends the season as only the top team goes on to compete at the State one-act contest in Norfolk. That honor went to Wausa this year.

“I don’t think anyone was super heartbroken over us getting second place,” said senior Isabelle Heimes. “We all knew Wausa was great competition, and we were pretty sure it would be between us and them.”

The cast and crew did everything Wynot director Heather Heimes asked of them, making adjustments and improvements all season long.

Isabelle Heimes said some conference judges commented that the ending was a bit confusing.

“We completely changed our ending,” she said. “We also had to work on a lot of small stuff to really polish our performance.”

Director Heimes said the team did an excellent job on transitions and building up the ending of “The Wishing Well” at districts.

The team received an Outstanding Tech Award and many were given Outstanding Performer Awards, including Isabelle Heimes, Myrah Sudbeck, Jed Nelson, Kinslee Heimes and Eliza Lange.

“Our kids have a lot to be proud of,” Director Heimes said. “We’ve done nonstop running for a month with State volleyball, State football, All-State chorus, and the kids showed up for every practice and worked hard. You just can’t put into words how proud I am of them.”

As a senior, Isabelle Heimes said she reflects back on the last four years in play production with only good feelings.

“I am happy to have been able to be on this team for four years and I can’t wait to see what they do in the following years,” she said.
