Wynot boys race past Bears

LAUREL — In the final regular season game for both teams, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears hosted the Wynot Blue Devils Friday.

The Blue Devils built an early lead, increased it in the third quarter and went on to pick up their 15th win of the season with the 56-41 win.

The Bears fell to 12-12 for their season. Zack Foxhoven took care of scoring in the second half hitting for 12 of his game high 17 points after half time. Dylan Heine carried the load in the first half for the Blue Devils scoring 13 of his 15 points before intermission.

The Bears got 14 points from Gibson Roberts, and Kolby Hansen just missed double figures for the game with his nine points.

The two teams started out slowly. Laurel Concord Coleridge got a three pointer from Landon Leonard and a free throw by Kolby Hansen.

Wynot did a little better with 4 points by Chase Schroeder and a three pointer by Zack Foxhoven as they held the 10-4 early lead.

The Blue Devils would heat up in the second quarter from long range. Dylan Heine would hit a trio of deep threes from what is now known as Logo range. Devin Brummer came off the bench to hit from behind the arch from the left corner.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge got 5 points each from Tyler Olsen and Kolby Hansen but fell behind trailing 29-16 at halftime.

In the third quarter Gibson Roberts tried to rally the Bears hitting for seven points. Wynot, however, went on a 19-10 run to pull away. Zack Foxhoven had the hot hand scoring eight points in the period. Kotner Koch also drained a trey and Chase Schroeder had a bucket plus-one to fuel the run. Wynot would take a 48-26 lead into the final quarter of play.

The Bears would try and rally in the final period. Kolby Hansen and Gibson Roberts both hit three pointers. Connor Korth, Tucker Olsen and Kayton Hall all had a bucket. Wynot got two more fieldgoals by Zack Foxhoven and basket each by Andrew Haberman and Carson Wieseler to make the final score 56-41 in favor of the Blue Devils.

Wynot traveled to Walthill Tuesday to take on Hartington-Newcastle in the first round of their SubDistrict.
