Wynot boys have trouble at Humphrey

HUMPHREY — The Wynot Blue Devils played in the Humphrey Holiday Tournament over the weekend and came up short on a pair of games.

On Friday, the Blue Devils ran into one of the top teams in D-2 in the Humphrey St. Francis Flyers and were routed by a final score of 72-33. A big third quarter 27-6 run got the Blue Devils in a big hole they never recovered from.

On Saturday night in the consolation round, the Blue Devils’ play improved, but they suffered another loss, as the Crofton Warriors used second and third quarter runs to build a lead and take the game by a final of 63-42.

In the St. Francis game, the Flyers got 22 points from Tanner Pfeifer, and double-figure scoring as well from Trevor Pfeifer with 12 points, and Evan Foltz, who finished with a 10-point effort.

Wynot was led by Anthony Haberman with 12 points, eight points by Hunter Heimes and seven points by Trystan Heimes.

In the first quarter, the Blue Devils got four points by Hunter Heimes and a trey by Anthony Haberman.

St. Francis got eight points from Trevor Pfiefer and four points each from Evan Foltz and Justin Leifeld to gain a 19-10 lead.

In the second quarter, Wynot’s Anthony Haberman hit two more 3-pointers and Trystan Heimes also connected from long range and contributed a bucket inside for his five points. Humphrey’s Tanner got hot and poured in 11 more points to lead the Flyers to a 37-23 halftime lead.

The Blue Devils offense went into a swoon in the third quarter, as St. Francis went on a big 27-6 run lead by seven points from Haustyn Forney and six more from Tanner Pfiefer, as their lead ballooned to 64- 29.

Reserves mopped up in the fourth quarter, as the final tally stood at 75-34 in favor of Humphrey St. Francis.
