Wynot Blue Devils edge out S.D. team for victory

WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils picked up a much needed win on Tuesday night as they downed the Irene-Wakonda Eagles by a score of 42-40.

The game was tight all the way but this time the Blue Devils stepped up and closed out their opponents in the final minutes with a 16-12 run that sealed the game. Wynot was led by Anthony Haberman with 15 points followed closely by Trystan Heimes with 13 points and five rebounds. Owen Sudbeck hit a pair of three pointers in the final minutes of the game and finished with nine points to help the Blue Devils to the win. Garrett Lange lead the team with seven rebounds. Irene Wakonda placed two players in double figures lead by Connor Libby’s 12 points and they got 10 points from Gavin Spurrell. Jake Jensen lead his team in rebounds with seven boards.

The game was relatively a foul free game as the refs let them play. In the opening quarter Wynot got a pair of buckets each from Trystan Heimes and Anthony Haberman. Irene- Wakonda got two baskets from Levi Larsen and one by Jake Jensen as Wynot captured an early 8-6 lead.

In the second quarter Connor Libby got the hot hand dumping nine points to lead the Eagles. Wynot countered with six points on the inside moves by Trystan Heimes and Anthony Haberman drove to the hoop for a pair of baskets. Wynot held a slim 20-18 advantage at halftime.

Scoring slowed again in the third quarter. Wynot got a trey by Owen Sudbeck and a bucket plus one by Trystan Heimes. The Eagles got five points from Gavin Spurrell and a basket each from Jake Jensen and Tase Van Beek to lead by one 27-26 going into the final period.

In the fourth quarter the Eagles got four points from Tase Van Beek and a 3-pointer each from Gavin Spurrell and Connor Libby. Wynot would get a pair of big three pointers by Owen Sudbeck. Jack Kuchta hit one as well from the left wing and Anthony Haberman connected for seven points to give Wynot the two-point lead. Irene Wakonda missed their final shot attempt and Garrett Lange got the rebound lying on his back to seal the 42-40 win.
