Wynot athletes will head to Omaha for State

HARTINGTON — It was quite the day at the District D-3 meet in Hartington last week for the Wynot Blue Devils.

The girls finished second with 91 points and the boys finished in fifth place (59 points). Nine Wynot girls will compete in eight events at State, while five boys have advanced to compete at State for Wednesday-Thursday’s Class D state meet in Omaha.

The girls who qualified for Omaha include Myrah Sudbeck (100 meters), Kinslee Heimes (100 meters, long jump), Kayla Pinkelman (100 hurdles), Kendra Pinkelman (400 meters), Krystal Sudbeck (200 meters, long jump), April Folkers (discus), the 400 relay team (Kinslee Heimes, Kendra Pinkelman, Myrah Sudbeck, Krystal Sudbeck), the 1,600 relay team (Kendra Pinkelman, Kinslee Heimes, Myrah Sudbeck, Karley Heimes) and the 3,200 relay team (Kendra Pinkelman, Allison Wieseler, Annika Heimes, Karley Heimes).

Advancing to the final weekend for the boys were Peyton Wieseler (discus), Jack Kuchta (long jump), Charlie Schroeder (200 and 400 meters), Chase Schroeder (800 meters),

Champions included Krystal Sudbeck (long jump), the girls 400 and 1,600 relays, Peyton Wieseler (discus), Charlie Schroeder (400 meters) and the 1,600-meter relay team of (Jack Kuchta, Chase and Charlie Schroeder, Joseph Sudbeck).

The freshman Kinslee Heimes is excited about the prospects of going to Omaha and making her mark on the sport while having an entire future ahead of her.

In jest she admitted she was the coolest person in her family at the moment although she didn’t get too much pomp and circumstance for her accomplishment – qualifying in four events.

“Our relays are very good this year and the other two events I got in as an additional qualifier,” she said. “It’s not so much pressure since I have come so far as a freshman. It’s a great accomplishment to get down there. No matter what happens I am going to be happy.

“I am going to go down there, have fun, compete my hardest and whatever happens, happens.”

Kinslee Heimes said the experience of going to state is a learning experience for someone of her age and can take all the lessons learned to move forward – regardless of bringing home four medals or not.

She also feels good about the team’s ability to bring home some positive results.

“We have a very good shot at bringing home a lot of medals,” she said. “Half of our relays are going, and we have some pretty competitive relays and individuals that are going down there.

“It’s going to be a good two days. It’s going to be a good state trip.”
