PAPILLION — William James “Bill” Kathol, 74, Papillion, died Jan. 7, 2022, in Omaha.

A vigil service was Jan. 11 at the West Center Chapel, Omaha. Mass of Christian Burial will be Jan. 12, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, Papillion. Interment will be in Omaha National Cemetery, Omaha.

Arrangements are under the direction of Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler, West Center Chapel, Omaha.

Bill was born Jan. 29, 1947, in Hartington. He was a proud and distinguished Army veteran who served in Vietnam from 1968-1970. In 1970, Bill moved to Omaha, where he began his lifelong career in the drywall trade, owning and operating his successful business for nearly 50 years. Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed the company of his blended family, friends, and neighbors along with camping, horseback riding, and Storm Chasers baseball games.

He is survived by his loving partner of 25 years, Linda Head, MD; his children, Jonathan Kathol (Jody Keisner), Omaha; Jane Brannen (Troy), Omaha; and Ted Kathol (Alyssa), Valley; his grandchildren, Baylor and Noelle Brannen, and Lily and Amelia Kathol; Linda’s daughter, Julie DiGiacomo (Kelly Hawk), Papillion; Julie’s children, Andrew and Lexi Di-Giacomo; his siblings, JoAnn Hosch, Charles Kathol (Linda), Allen Kathol (Lynn), Laurie Wilwerding, Darlene Kathol, Rhea Geary (Bob), Norma Halstead (Gary), Lisa Sudbeck (Danny), Tina Coughlin (Mike), and Keith Kathol (Teresa); Linda’s siblings, Nancy Hanson (Randy), Walter Kujawa and Elizabeth Dahl, MD (Kelly); many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. William was preceded in death by parents, Laverne Kathol Sassen and James W. Kathol; and two brothers-in law.
