Posted in:

PONCA — The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats used a strong second half surge to overcome a first-half deficit en route to a 60-43 SubDistrict win here.

The win set up a showdown between the Cats and the state-rated Laurel-Conocrd-Coleridge Bears.

HNS and Allen traded baskets early, but the Cats were able to work their way to a 10-7 advantage.

The second frame belonged to the Eagles as they put together a 15-11 run to take a 22-21 lead into the locker room.

The Purple and White came out of the locker room fired up after the halftime break. The Cats’ offense was clicking as they earned a 21-9 scoring advantage to gain the momentum.

HNS then closed out the game with an 18-12 run to seal the win. The Cats took control of the game with a solid long game, connecting on 53 percent of their shots from downtown.

Shaye Morten and Kobe Heitman paced the offense. Morten dropped in a game-high 22 points, while Heitman added 18.
