Wildcats pull away from Homer

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats pulled away in the second half last Thursday to earn a 62-50 Lewis and Clark Conference win over the visiting Homer Knights.

Both teams hit for 13 firstquarter points. The Cats earned a 15-13 second-quarter scoring advantage to take a 28-26 lead into the halftime break.

The second half belonged to the Purple and White.

HNS put together a 15-11 run to start the third quarter, then finished off the Knights with a 19-13 run in the final frame.

The Cats were led on offense by a trio of double-figure scorers.

The Wildcats had a hot shooting hand from close in, hitting on 68 percent of their shots from inside the arc. They didn’t fare quite as well from behind the arc, though, hitting only 3-11.

Shaye Morten led the Wildcats in scoring with 21 points. Jake Peitz and Sam Harms chipped in with 14 points each.

The Knights Caleb Kearnes took scoring honors for the game, hitting for 22 counters.

The Cats were in action again Tuesday when Laurel-Concord-Coleridge came to town. The Cats travel to Crofton on Friday night.
