Wildcats finish second at Trojan Invitational

HARTINGTON — Hartington-Newcastle’s boys and girls track teams competed in the Trojan Invitational at the Hartington Community Complex on April 11.

The Wildcats came home with the runner-up hardware and the Lady Wildcats finished fifth in the eightteam field.

The hosts won both of the team races with Cedar Catholic’s boys at 152 and the Wildcats second at 94.

Cedar Catholic’s girls outlasted Crofton 137-124 to win while HNS was fifth with 64.

“We performed very well at this meet,” Wildcats coach Blair Kalin said. “I am excited to see where we can go if we keep improving.”

Cole Heimes and Cole Rosener stood out in the wind in the meet along with Mayson McIntosh.

Rosener won the long jump with a best of 20-feet-11.5-inches and placed fourth in the 100.

Heimes was second in the 300 hurdles and third in the triple jump with a best of 40-07.

McIntosh won the 200 in 22.63 and was second in the 400 with a time of 56.81 seconds.

Kale Korth also found success on the day, winning the 110 hurdles in 18-08 seconds and placing third in 300 hurdles in 50-95.

“Cole Heimes and Cole Rosener had really good days in the jumps,” Kalin said. “And Kale Korth in the hurdles and Mayson McIntosh in the sprints are really coming along.”

All four were big parts of the Wildcats’ relay teams, which scored 16 points in the meet.

The 400-meter squad of Korth, McIntosh, Lane Heimes and Kysiah Rice were second in 47.42 seconds; the 1,600-meter team of Rosener, Cole Heimes, Landon McIntosh and Mayson McIntosh placed third in the event and the 3,200-meter quartet of Alan Santiago, Isaac Santiago, Dane Gotch and Dalton Rice placed fifth.

Lane Heimes vaulted to 12-6 for second in the pole vault and Landon McIntosh was sixth in the 200.

The Lady Wildcats ran, threw and jumped their way to their highest point total of the season.

The hurdles, the jumps and the relays were the highlights for Hartington- Newcastle at the meet.
