Wildcat cross country runners claim first title of the season

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcat and Lady Wildcat cross country teams opened the new season on a strong note.

The teams hosted the Hartington-Newcastle Invitational Thursday at the Hartington Community Complex.

The Wildcats nipped the field, edging out Battle Creek for the team title 47-48, with Osmond right behind with 49 points.

Carson Noecker took the individual title without “nipping” or “edging” the field.

Noecker finished almost two-and-a-half minutes ahead of the next runner over the 5,000-meter course.

Dyami Berridge of Winnebago was second to Noecker in a time of 18:10.40 compared to Noecker’s 15:46.30 clocking.

Cole Rosener placed ninth for the Wildcats in 20:12.60 while Alan Santiago was 18th in 21:20.60.

Lukas Wortmann was 22nd in 21:34.60 to post the last score for the Wildcats.

Not all individual runners count in the team score as some of the runners are not represented by a full team and the top four individual runners for each team entered count toward the team scores.

The Lady Wildcats finished second in the girls’ division and were paced by Ava Noecker, who finished third individually.

Homer took the team title with 22 points while Hartington-Newcastle was second with 35.

Neligh-Oakdale was third with 43 points. Lilly Harris of Homer won the individual title ahead of Afftynn Stusse of Battle Creek while Noecker was third in 23:53.70.

Carmen Buschkamp (25:47.00) and Isabel Rolfes (25:56.10) placed 10th and 11th, respectively, while Claire Rolfes was 15th in 26:17.20.
