Virginia J. “Tiny” Burns

LAUREL — Virginia J. “Tiny” Burns, 87, Laurel, died April 2, 2020, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Due to the current healthcare guidelines funeral services for Virginia will be private, with a graveside service at the Laurel Cemetery, Laurel.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel.

Virginia Jane “Tiny” Burns was born July 19, 1932, in Belden, to Walter and Tillie (Griesel) Kint. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1950. She gave baton lessons and sang in the school choir. Tiny married Lowell Emory Burns Feb. 25, 1951, at the Laurel United Methodist Church. She was a lifelong resident of Cedar County.

Tiny was a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary, and Order of Eastern Star. She taught Sunday school, belonged to the United Methodist Women, and was very active in the Laurel Senior Center. Tiny was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, cooking, baking and going for family drives. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and attended as many of their activities as possible.

Tiny and Lowell were always the first to help anyone in need. She always made everyone feel so comfortable and welcome in her home, that it became the gathering place for many family events. Tiny was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and a friend to all. She was the heart of our home.

Tiny is survived by her children, Nancy (Regg) Gadeken, Hartington; Linda (John) Dall, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Deanna (Roddy) Smith, Chaska, Minn.; Penny Voichoskie, Norfolk; grandchildren, Wesley Smith, Christopher (Jessica) Gadeken, Abby Smith, Brian Gadeken and Eric (Jessi) Dall; great-grandchildren, Jenna and Caleb Gadeken, and Emeri, Jonathan, and Gunner Dall; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell, in 2017; her parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Marjorie Kint, Kenneth “Jiggs” and Margaret Kint, Warren “Breezie” and Shirley Kint, Jim and Lila Kint; and sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Howard Soden and Lois Kint.
