US Cellular will help pay for Hartington City Auditorium improvements

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Hartington City Council last week approved the addition of two more men to the Hartington Volunteer Fire Department.

Aaron Wichelman and John Brodersen will become new members of the local squad.

The Council also learned last week that U.S. Cellular has agreed to pay for up to $5,000 in improvements being made to the fire escape at the Hartington City Auditorium.

The Council approved a contract with U.S. Cellular at its last meeting to rent space on top of the auditorium for a small cell tower.

As part of the contract, however, US Cellular asked that the city repair the fire escape on the east side of the building in case the company needs to use it to access the auditorium roof. Wiechelman Repair submitted an estimate of $5,000 to make the improvements.

Councilman Roman Sudbeck told the board a few things still need to be done at the Hartington Community Complex. He is still waiting for a contractor to pour a cement pad for bleachers at the football practice field at the complex.

The Council also learned the Hartington Swimming Pool is considering Aug. 12 as its closing date as many of the pool employees have to return to college.

The city is also working on a lease with Laverle Heimes, who wants to lease a small piece of city-owned property next to his shop on the northeastern edge of Hartington.
