Two die in Wayne area highway collision

WAYNE - Two people have died after a two-vehicle collision in Wayne County over the weekend.

Services are pending for Jerry Sievers and his wife, Karen, after the collision at 7:45 p.m., Sunday, on Highway 35.

According to the Wayne County sheriff s office, a westbound vehicle on Highway 35, driven by Shawn Wiedeman, was stopped and yielding to traffic to turn south on 566th Avenue. A westbound Honda trike, driven by Jerry Sievers, struck the rear of Wiedeman’s vehicle.

Sievers and his wife, Karen, who was a passenger, were thrown from the trike upon impact and were pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in Wiedeman’s vehicle was transported to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, treated and released. A portion of Highway 35 was shut down for about two hours while the crash was investigated.

The Wayne County Sheriff s Office was assisted by Nebraska State Patrol, the Hoskins/Woodland Park volunteer fire department, the Winside Volunteer Fire Department, the Carroll Volunteer Fire Department and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
