Turnovers help Osceola High Plains earn D1 State title

Posted in:

LINCOLN — Osceola High Plains jumped out big early then survived a late Burwell rally to earn a 40-34 win in the Class D1 State championship game at Memorial Stadium Monday morning.

It looked as though Burwell would complete their comeback rally as the Longhorns stepped in front of an Osceola High Plains pass with just under two

minutes left in the game.
Burwell, which was trailing 40-34 at

the time, then began driving toward the endzone, but that rally ended with a fumble. It was Burwell’s fth turnover of the game. Turnovers were the story of the game as they were a big factor in High Plains’ win. Burwell gained more yards on the ground, and through the air then OHP.

The Longhorns also picked up more rst downs than the StormDogs. None of that mattered, though, as OHP took advantage

of Burwell miscues to earn the win.
