Tramp tops write-ins for County Commission seat

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — Chris Tramp thought he’d earned the seat last May as Cedar County’s First District Commissioner.

Tramp defeated incumbent Terry Pinkelman in the Democratic Primary. Two write-in candidates decided to challenge him in the General Election for the seat, though.

Tramp once again emerged victorious Tuesday, defeating write-ins Dick Donner and Eugene Pinkelman for a four-year term on the Board.

Tramp garnered 365 votes, while Donner picked up 304 votes and Pinkelman had 211.

Donner, who served as the  Third District Commissioner in the late 1990s and early 2000s, said it’s tough to win as a write-in.

“His name was on the ballot, that gives a guy a real advantage,” Donner said.

All other Cedar County officials up for election were unopposed for another term.

Two Cedar County communities also voted Tuesday to put sales tax in place.

Nearly 59 percent of Coleridge Village residents favored a sales tax proposal. In Laurel, 71 percent of the voters decided to put a sales tax in place.

Unofficial results showed Creighton native Tim Gragert winning the Dist. 40 Senate seat. Gragert earned 7,181 votes, while challenger Keith Kube of Crofton garnered 6,738 votes.

Dist. 40 is made up of Cedar, Dixon, Holt, Knox, Boyd and Rock counties.

Cedar County residents favored Kube for the Dist. 40 Senate seat. Kube garnered 57 percent of the vote in Cedar County, while Gragert earned 43 percent of the vote.

Kube earned 393 votes in Boyd County, Gragert took 470, and in Rock County Kube had 314 to Gragert’s 261.

Holt County voters came out strong for Tim Gragert. The unofficial final results had Gragert at 1999 votes to Kube’s 1794.

Knox County favored Kube with 1836 votes, while  Gragert received 1382.
