Tom Peitz

Thomas Jerome was born on Jan. 12, 1952, in Yankton, S.D., to Joseph Frederick and Sylvia Caroline (Boeckman) Peitz. He grew up in Hartington and attended Holy Trinity and graduated in 1970 from Cedar Catholic High School. Tom joined the U.S. Air Force in October of 1970 and served until October of 1974. Tom worked at Christensen Well for several years before working at Peitz GMC where he retired in 2018. Tom also drove the school bus for local schools for 43 years which he thoroughly enjoyed. Tom married Peggy J. Sandrock Jan. 26, 1980, in Hartington at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Tom was a member of the VFW Honor Guard and loved his faith, his family, and working on their small farm.

Tom is survived by his wife Peggy, Hartington; six children, Mindy (Kirk) Carr, Omaha; Amy Peitz, Omaha; Stacy (Terry) Thoene, Eagle; Nathan Peitz and fiance (Brianna Haun), Omaha; Adam (Tori) Peitz, Omaha; Tracy Peitz and fiance (Brandon Hegeholz), Seward; God-daughter Lisa Peitz, Alaska; six grandchildren, Hudson, Kai, and Wren Carr; Oliver Thoene; Nora and Holden Peitz; two sisters MaryJean (Paul) Hagerty, Omaha; Carla (Don) Taylor, Ponca; one brother Darrell (Bev) Peitz, Hartington.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Sylvia Peitz; a brother Tim Peitz; a sister Karen Stunden; and grandson Maverick Peitz.

HARTINGTON — Tom Peitz, 70, Hartington, died on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, at Bergan Mercy Hospital, Omaha, due to a battle with Mesothelioma.

Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 26 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating.

Burial was at St. Michael’s cemetery, Hartington, with military rites by the Hartington VFW Post #5283 and the American Legion Riders.

Visitation and a vigil service were Thursday at church. Visitation continued Friday one hour prior to services. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Pallbearers were Tom’s nephews, Brad Peitz, Pat Peitz, Mike Peitz, Nick Peitz, Shawn Hagerty, Brian Hagerty, Andy Tom Peitz
