HARTINGTON — A trying 27-hole match played in 100-degree temperatures climaxed the Hartington City Golf Tournament, which was won by Ed Zimmer for the first time. Zimmer defeated Iver Anderson of Wausa 2-1 in 27 holes Sunday afternoon.

The match zig-zagged back and forth throughout the first 18 holes, which ended all even. Zimmer birdied the first two holes of the final round to take a two-up advantage.

The margin dropped to one when Zimmer bogeyed the par three fourth hole, but regained the margin on the par four sixth hole.

Other flight winners were:

Second Flight - Paul Modde def. Bill Rath.

Third Flight - Fred Zimmer def. Ray Hegert Jr.

Fourth Flight - Paul Tunink def. Ed Stevens

Fifth Flight - Clarence Hoesing vs. Jay Walz
