HARTINGTON — Cedar County residents will join people across the nation in voting in the Nov. 2 general election.

Neb. Gov. Dave Heineman is up for re-election, as well as Nebraska’s three Congressmen. Dist. 40 Sen. Cap Dierks is also being challenged for another term in office.

HARTINGTON — Cody Christensen wants to help make Hartington a better place to live.

Christensen and Gerry Thoene have both filed for the same spot on the Hartington City Council.

Thoene has served the North Ward of Hartington for the past eight years.

Cody Christensen did not have any particular issues in mind when he filed for the slot on the Hartington City Council, but he does think more people need to get involved.

HARTINGTON — Cedar County Clerk Dave Dowling is being challenged for another term in office by Brian Steffen.

Dowling is in his sixth term as the Cedar County Clerk.

Dowling has served as the County Clerk, Register of Deeds and the Election Commissioner since taking office in 1987.

HARTINGTON — Music filled the air at the Hartington Library last Thursday evening, when Mary Green Vickrey, a musician and music scholar, took her audience a step back in time as she strummed her guitar and sang historical music from the era of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

HARTINGTON — Two men are being held in Cedar County Jail on a $50,000 bond for 28 counts of Game Law Violations filed against each of them.

Carlos Alberto and Juanrez Flores each hold El Salvador ID cards and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement have placed a hold on each of the men.

The two men were allegedly in possession of nine paddlefish, seven freshwater drum, three Smallmouth Bass, one Walleye, four Channel Catfish and one Flathead Catfish when they were arrested.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Wildcats had Winside on the ropes Friday.

Hartington took an 8-0 lead then shut down the Winside offense for most of the game.

The Red Cats used a big play to storm back to tie the game late in the fourth quarter, then earned an overtime touchdown to earn the 16-8 decision and hand Hartington High its fifth loss of the season Friday.

WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils dug themselves into a big hole in the first half against the Bloomfield Bees Friday, but came back in the second half.
