Thone helps Coleridge pick up park grant

COLERIDGE — A 72-58 reading ended the first game for the Coleridge Bulldogs Saturday night as they captured the first contest of the season.
Kevin Krei hit a spectacular 29 points on 12 field goals and five for nine free throws for the Coleridge crew.
Alan Benson was the only other Bulldog in the two-figure column with 16 points. He had eight field goals and had no free throw opportunities.

COLERIDGE — Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Katherine Barnes, 78, of Spencer, Ia., were held Monday, Dec. 10 at 3:30 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Chapel in Coleridge. Rev. Vern R. Willey officiated. Burial was in the Coleridge City Cemetery. Mrs. Barnes died Saturday, Dec. 8 at Spencer.
The daughter of Enoch and Caroling (Goetz) Eby, Grace Katherine was born February 16, 1894 at Hartington. She was married to Roy R. Hedglin who died in November, 1950. On May 24, 1963 she was married to Mr. Barnes.

COLERIDGE —The Coleridge Swimming Pool Fund went up another $34.90 this past week with interest on the fund money on notes. The total now stands at $5443.67.

COLERIDGE — Coleridge merchants will be offering free hams as an extra shopping bonus to be given away on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 20.
Registration is being held by each merchant. The registration boxes will be taken to the Town Hall where the names will be drawn. The first name drawn from each box will be the winner of the free ham. You need not be present to win. Each merchant will be responsible for their own ham.

SEWARD —Jim Schroeder, who has been in charge of the Commercial Club summer program and the coach for the Midget and Junior Legion ball teams, scored a career-high of 28 points Saturday afternoon to lead Concordia to its first win of the season. His team defeated Dana 84-81.
Schroeder, a 6’1” guard, hit a jumper with 40 seconds left to tie the game 74-74 to put the game into overtime.
He then pumped in three points during the overtime.

COLERIDGE — Mr. and Mrs. Ron Wilcox of Greeley, Colo., are the parents of a daughter, Dawn Angela born Friday, Dec. 7.
She weighed 6 lbs., 14 oz. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Don Storm and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wilcox and great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Henry and Fred Storm.

COLERIDGE — Another quick and happy winner for the Yuletide Buck drawing Saturday afternoon was Mrs. Helen Krei. She was on hand to claim 50 percent of the Jackpot for $100.00. Two more drawings are planned before Christmas by the participating merchants.
The next drawing will be Saturday, Dec. 15, with another on Wednesday, Dec. 19. Both drawings are at 2:30 p.m.

COLERIDGE — The Congregational Church Sunday School Christmas Program will be held on Sunday evening, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
Members of the Kindergarten and Primary Classes will give recitations. The Junior Class will present “Songs of Christmas” with participation by the Junior Choir and the Congregation.
The Junior High Class will participatie in the pantomine story, “Why the Chimes Rang”. Special music and readings will be contributed by members of the Senior High and Adult classes.

COLERIDGE — The Sunday School program, “The Christmas Story” will be given Sunday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church. Brian Smith will give the Invitation to Worship and Curtis Janssen and Steve Pfund the prayer.
Kevin Schoeppler, Kirk Olsen, Shari Puntney and Shari Yost will give the Christmas Welcome and songs will be sung by different classes of the Sunday School and the Carolers.
Mrs. Ed Kalin, Mrs. Claire Gleason and Mrs. Jim Hansen attended the Rural North Central Deanery fall meeting recently in Laurel.

COLERIDGE — Congressman Charles Thone announced Monday that a grant for recreation and improvement of existing facilities has been made by the Federal Government and approved by the Sate of Nebraska for the Village of Coleridge.
Coleridge will receive a total of $16,905.00 through the assistance plan.
The total park improvement project cost is $22,540. The Federal Government will pay $11,270.00, the State of Nebraska $5,635 and the remaining $5,635 will be paid by the Village of Coleridge.

COLERIDGE — Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester (Ves) Winkelbauer were honored at a dinner given for them in honor of their 32nd wedding anniversary on Sunday in the home of Charles Winkelbauer of near Randolph.
Those present for the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Winkelbauer and Chad, Ed, Rich and Russ Winkelbauer, Julius Arens, Jeff and Frank, and Mrs. Roger Merkle and Sheila of Hartington.
