Terry McPhillips

BRANDON, S.D. - Terry McPhillips, 54, Brandon, S.D., died Jan. 14, 2021, at his residence. He is the father of Corey, Nathan and Lincoln.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Jan. 30, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Humphrey, with the Rev. Eric Olsen officiating.

Burial of his cremated remains will be at the St. Bernard Cemetery, Lindsay.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Military rites will be held outside of church, following the Mass, by the Humphrey American Legion Post 80 and the VFW post 7725.

The family requests that face masks and social distancing be used for the funeral.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Terrance Joseph was born April 21, 1966, in Newman Grove, to Joseph and Phyllis (Kosch) McPhillips. Terry grew up in the Lindsay area and graduated from Humphrey High School. He attended Wayne State College. He met Connie Blaschke at college. They were married Dec. 6, 1986, and had three boys, Corey, Nathan and Lincoln. Terry’s three boys attended school at Hartington-Newcastle High School. Terry was involved with coaching their soccer games and traveling basketball teams as they grew up. He loved watching his boys play sports. He was always the loudest fan at their games. Terry’s latest employment was with Diamond Mower, Sioux Falls, S.D., as a machinist/welder.

Terry met Nancy Miller in Sioux City, Iowa. They were married in April 2011. Terry always wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise and they shared that experience. Terry would ride his Harley to the games, otherwise he and Nancy would be seen cruising in the Mustang. Terry loved everything about the Huskers. He never missed watching a game. When the Huskers scored a touchdown, everyone knew it. Terry also took online courses and graduated from Boston College. He joined the Marine Corp in 1986. He was stationed at Camp Lejune, N.C. He served his country in several branches of the military and was a 25-year veteran.

Terry is survived by his three sons, Corey (Keli) McPhillips, Grandview, Kan,; Nathan (Meghan) McPhillips, Crofton; Lincoln McPhillips, Lincoln; two sisters and four brothers, Carroll (Linda) McPhillips, Columbus; Joyce ( Dennis) Heimer, Richland; Jackie Olsen, Columbus; Gerry (Deb) McPhillips, Lindsay; Ron (Barb) McPhillips, York; Gene (Maureen) McPhillips, Humphrey; many nieces and nephews; and his godchildren, Noah McPhillips and Marc McPhillips.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, one nephew, Matthew McPhillips; and brother-in-law, David Preister.
