SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Teresa R. Hirschman, 93, Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Laurel, died Sept. 2, 2022, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, Sioux City, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Laurel, with the Rev. Jerry Connealy officiating. Burial was at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Dixon. Pallbearers were Chris Sachau, Brett Sachau, Bart Sachau, Luke Sachau, Daniel McCright, Derrick Hirschman, Joe Stolpe and Josh Stolpe. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter. Visitation was Tuesday morning at the church until the rosary at 10:30 a.m.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel.

Teresa Renee was born Nov. 19, 1928, in rural Dixon, to James Michael and Alta Katherine (Vernon) Duffy. She was raised in the Dixon area and graduated from Laurel High School. She received her teacher’s certificate and taught country school until she was married to James Julius Hirschman Dec. 27, 1950, in Laurel. Teresa and James raised six children. Teresa also sold Avon Beauty products for 48 years. She had moved to Lawton, Iowa, Sept. 8, 2008, and recently to Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Teresa was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Laurel, and its Altar Society. She bowled in her early years and also crocheted afghans for all of her family and grandchildren. Teresa was also a very good cook.

Teresa is survived by her five children, Micky Sachau, Allen; Val Mc-Cright, Utica; Rosie (Larry) Wiebelhaus, Sioux City, Iowa; Mike (Gloria) Hirschman, Lawton, Iowa; and Julie Stolpe, Aurora; and 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alta Duffy; husband, James, May 15, 1999, at the age of 69; son, Pat; sons-in-law, Sterling Stolpe and Dan (Boone) McCright; and three brothers, Bernard, Jack and Donnie Duffy.
