Sudbeck’s pitching gives Wynot Expos a win

TABOR — Expos has begun its State chase.

So far, so good for the Wynot Expos in their hunt for a return to the South Dakota Amateur Baseball playoffs.

The Expos, the No. 2 team in the South Central District tournament, opened up tournament play with a 6-2 win over No. 7 Menno Friday night and advanced to a late Tuesday contest against No. 3 Lesterville.

In the win against Menno, Jackson Sudbeck threw a complete, nine-inning game and gave up only seven hits with one earned run in the win while striking out five.

“He kept hitters off balance all night and our defense backed him up the whole game,” Expos coach Lee Heimes said. “Offensively, we got off to a good start by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning.”

Jackson Sudbeck drove in two runs with a double, while Heimes went 4-for-4 with an RBI. Wynot finished the night with 10 hits and managed to hold on despite Menno rapping out seven hits of its own.

Next comes Lesterville which Wynot has swept in two close games this summer.
