Solemn Service

There’s nothing quite like a small town Memorial Day celebration, even if the weather decides not to cooperate. Rainy weather early Monday morning, and the prospect for more rain during the 10 a.m. Courthouse celebration forced organizers to move Monday’s event to the basement of the Hartington City Auditorium and cancel cemetery ceremonies at Paragon, Fordyce, and Hartington. Jerry Thoene and Tom Peitz exchange a salute as they trade places guarding the Colors. (below) Bill Christensen, Steve Keiser and Dean McGregor salute as the colors are removed at the conclusion of Monday’s ceremony here. About 125 people turned out for the event.
