Sharon Promes

CARROLL, Iowa — Sharon Ann Promes, 80, Carroll, Iowa, died Jan. 15, 2022, at Accura Healthcare Center, Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 2:30 p.m., Jan. 19, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. St. John Paul II Parish, Carroll with Fr. Merlin Schrad as Celebrant.

Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carroll.

Casket bearers will be grandsons, Chad Promes, Sean Promes, Nick Heuton, Tyler Heuton, Nathan Promes and Matt Promes.

Visitation and a Christian Wake Service were at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home, Carroll, Tuesday. The casket will be moved to the church at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday where visitation without greeting the family, will continue until 2:15 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home, Carroll.

Sharon, daughter of Fritz and Zita (Kathol) Hochstein, was born July 2, 1941, in Wynot. She attended grade school and high school in Wynot, graduating in May 1959. She married Ervin “Erv” Promes May 21, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wynot. They moved to Carroll in July 1960. Sharon and Erv had six children.

Sharon worked at the Carroll Country Club for two years, then worked at G.E. for 25 years, retiring in November 1996.

Sharon enjoyed watching her grandchildren while they were all young. She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, embroidering, taking care of her plants, and messing around on her iPad.

Sharon is survived by her six children, son, Craig Promes (fiancée Lori Ahart), Denison, Iowa; son, Chris Promes (Christy), Denison, Iowa; son, Carey Promes (Maria), Carroll, Iowa; son, Curt Promes, Carroll, Iowa; daughter, Charlotte Johnson (Mike), Austin, Texas; and daughter, Cindy Heuton (Ryan), Carroll; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Hochstein (Marilyn), Des Plaines, Ill; sister-in-law, Arlyce Hochstein, Wynot; and in-laws, Alice Beyeler, Jefferson City, Mo., and Carol Promes, Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Zita Hochstein; her father and mother-in-law, Joe and Ida Promes, brothers, Larry and Randy Hochstein; her sister, Donna Criner (Jack); a daughter-in-law, Julie Promes; and her husband, Erv, in 2013.
