Sharon (Lindemann) Hoblit

Posted in:

MESA, Ariz. — Sharon (Lindemann) Hoblit, 77, Mesa, Ariz., and Portland, Ore., died Oct. 9, 2023, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. The interment of Sharon’s ashes will be at the Coleridge City Cemetery. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held in Hartington on May 28. Sharon was born on the family farm in Hartington, Oct. 17, 1945, to Lawrence “Stub” and Margaret “Peggy” (Kepper) Lindemann. Sharon attended country school through eighth grade. For high school, she moved into town to attend Hartington High School. Following her 1963 graduation, Sharon went to work for Northwestern Bell in Yankton, S.D. Sharon married Carrol Jones in 1964. They moved to Roseburg, Ore., in 1966, where Sharon worked for Pacific Northwest Bell. They welcomed a daughter, Gina, in 1967. Following their divorce in 1970, Sharon married Wally Hoblit in 1971. They moved to Bend, Ore., in 1973, and welcomed a son, Brian, in 1977. Sharon continued her career with Pacific Northwest Bell (US West/Qwest), retiring in 1999 after 36 years of service. Following her retirement, she and Wally sold their home in Bend and began traveling full-time across the United States in their RV. They covered 48 states in all. Five winters were spent in Florida, where they worked part-time for Disney World in the costuming department. In 2009, they bought a home in Mesa, but continued traveling in the RV during the summers throughout Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, and Oregon. After selling the RV in 2015, they bought a condominium in Portland, splitting their time between Arizona and Oregon. During their post-RV years, they went on trips to Africa, Cuba, Europe, and the Panama Canal.

Sharon enjoyed singing in a community choir in Arizona, volunteering, hosting Sunday cards after church, organizing family outings, researching her ancestry and connecting with those who matched up with her, doing art projects and making desserts with her grandchildren, touring museums, attending live theater, movies, and concerts, and going on horseback rides. She had an adventurous spirit that led to outings such as riding ATVs, flying in a hot air balloon, exploring caves, and indoor/outdoor skydiving. She also liked going for walks on the beach, where she had a knack for finding sand dollars and sea glass.

Sharon was a remarkable daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She cherished the simple joys of family gatherings, the beauty of nature, and the warmth of genuine human connection. Her compassion and generosity were boundless, and her legacy of kindness will continue to touch the lives of many.

Sharon lives on in the hearts and memories of her husband of 52 years, Wally, Mesa, Ariz., and Portland, Ore.; her daughter, Gina Bjorvik (Erik), and son, Brian Hoblit, both of Portland, Ore.; her grandchildren, Meredith and Ryan Bjorvik; and her brother, Bill Lindemann (Barb).

Her brother Dick Lindemann (June) died three months after his beloved baby sister. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Larry.
