Seniors use big inning to knock out Wisner

Posted in:

WISNER- The Hartington American Legion Seniors came alive in the fifth inning to earn an 11-1 win here Saturday.

Hartington fell behind 1-0 after the first inning, but a Seth Wiebelhaus triple in the third drove in Chase Lammers to knot the game at 1-1.

Hartington batted around, driving in 10 runs, in the fifth inning to put the game away.

Brady Steffen led off the fifth with a single, and then moved to third base on a Chase Lammers single. An error at second base then allowed Steffen to score as Wiebelhaus reached base. A Turner Korth single then loaded the bases, and a Riley Arens single drove in Lammers to give Hartington the 3-1 lead.

Wiebelhaus came barreling home to score on a wild pitch. Turner Korth then came in on a Ted Bengston single to center field to extend Hartington’s lead to 5-1.

Wisner switched pitchers at that point, but it didn’t seem to help as he sandwiched four walks around a fielder’s choice, bringing in three more Hartington runs and keeping the bases loaded.
